Telesales Training 101 from SalesBuzz.com

Monday Morning's for a Telesales Rep

I still remember what it felt like every Monday morning, walking into work as a straight commissioned telesales rep. No matter how well (or not so well) the previous week was for sales, Monday always brought you back to zero. Zero dials for the week. Zero sales on the board. Zero momentum. With factors like these, it’s no wonder that sales motivation and positive thinking is so important to the lively hoods of a telesales rep.

As I’ve moved on from sales professional to President and CEO of SalesBuzz.com, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you one of the many “best practices” I discovered along the way that has helped me sell better and get ahead in my sales career.

One sales best practice I would like to discuss today involves having a game plan for each sales call.

Simply ask yourself
before each call the following question:

"What is it that I want to accomplish on this sales call?"

Here are some of your options, depending on what type of call you are making:

Cold Call Example:
  • I want to be able to ask them some qualifying questions in order to see if they match our profile.
Proposal Follow Up Call Example:
  • I want to avoid getting the "brush off" and being left in limbo about the sale.
Leaving a Voice Mail Call Example:
  • I want to get the prospect to call me back.

When you start each call by asking yourself “What do I want to accomplish on this call?” you get a clear picture of your goal. Once you have a clear vision of your goal, you can plan your attack to achieve that goal. Having a plan of attack increases your success rate to accomplishing your goals. It also removes doubt, anxiety and fear. Which are all enemies to a telesales professional.

So starting right now, with your very next sales call, ask yourself “What do I want to accomplish on this call?” If you don’t know what the answer should be, contact me ASAP!
